DALLAS, TX, Aug. 31, 2017 — Big Game USA is once again at the forefront of innovation after crafting an official Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) game football for the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) that is different than any ball to ever hit the field. In 2017, the UAB Blazers will be the first team in college football history to play with green laces on their primary ball.
“We want to help teams bring the design of their football to life,” said Chris Calandro, Big Game founder. “UAB will be playing with a ball that has a distinctive look, that’s unlike any ball to ever be played with in a game, and that’s something to get excited about.”
The Blazers Team Issue “Blaze” game football is highlighted by its history-making green laces. The UAB logo is prominently displayed in the team’s forest green and old gold colors, with “Blazers” stamped in gold underneath. Each football is also equipped with Big Game’s state-of-the-art gametag™ technology, displayed near the center of the laces.
Big Game and UAB teamed up for the 2017 season to develop a football to the exact specifications requested by the Blazers offense. UAB evaluated various sizes, leathers, patterns and laces during the offseason, followed by Big Game handcrafting each football to the team’s preferences. Each ball adheres to NCAA specifications for game footballs.
UAB will be returning to the field for the first time since 2014 to play in the FBS Conference USA (CUSA) West Division in 2017. The Blazers open the season on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 2:30 p.m. against Alabama A&M.
